Luxury Vinyl Flooring Guide

Luxury vinyl flooring has quickly become one of the most popular flooring options in residential and commercial settings. Why? Luxury vinyl flooring combines the natural looks of wood and stone with premium performance. So, no matter your design preferences or durability requirements, there's a perfect luxury vinyl floor for you.

Luxury vinyl, which is often referred to simply as LVT flooring, is super-stylish and ultra-durable because of its special construction. Unlike hardwood and stone, luxury vinyl features a synthetic construction, which means that it is almost entirely made from durable materials. With this construction, luxury vinyl will resist surface scratches and scuffs, and it also can handle spills and stains. At the same time, luxury vinyl planks and tiles are reinforced with additional support layers, so they will rarely, if ever, crack, chip, or break.

How does luxury vinyl flooring handle moisture? All luxury vinyl floors are considered water resistant, so they can handle low to moderate moisture levels. There are luxury vinyl flooring options, however, that are considered waterproof. These waterproof luxury vinyl floors, including our exclusive Invincible H2O, have rigid waterproof cores that provide exceptional dimensional stability to the planks and tiles.

Where Can Luxury Vinyl Be Installed?

Although hardwood and stone offer natural style and luxury, they aren’t suitable for every residential setting. Hardwood, for example, isn’t the best option for areas with moisture or heavy foot traffic. Luxury vinyl, however, is suitable for pretty much any area in the home. It can withstand the foot traffic you typically see in living rooms, it is comfortable enough for bedrooms, and it can handle the moisture you’d expect in kitchens. In high-traffic or high-moisture areas like bathrooms, however, we do recommend choosing a waterproof luxury vinyl floor. Learn more about luxury vinyl flooring installation.

There are also commercial luxury vinyl floors that can handle heavy foot traffic. These floors, which are exceptionally strong and usually extra thick, are even suitable for rolling traffic.

Types of Luxury Vinyl Flooring

There are a few different types of luxury vinyl flooring options, including vinyl tile flooring, vinyl plank flooring, and sheet vinyl flooring. Sheet vinyl is a more time-tested and traditional option, but vinyl tile and vinyl plank are becoming more and more popular.

Vinyl tile flooring is a durable alternative to ceramic and porcelain tile.
